General Accountant

Position Summary:

We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented General Accountant to join our team at our Montreal office. As a key member of our accounting department, you will be responsible for a range of accounting tasks, including preparing and analyzing financial statements, reconciling accounts, and managing special projects.

In this role, you will be responsible for supporting the financial operations of our company and its international subsidiaries, including preparing and reviewing financial statements and reports, maintaining accurate and complete financial records, and reconciling accounts to ensure their accuracy. You will also be responsible for managing special projects as needed, including analyzing and interpreting financial data, developing and implementing financial systems and processes, and collaborating with other departments to ensure financial goals are met.

Responsibilities:
  • Prepare month end close including income statements, balance sheets, and statements of cash flow for two companies.
  • Maintain accurate and complete financial records, including general ledgers, accounts payable, and accounts receivable.
  • Coordinate the work of external bookkeeper.
  • Reconcile accounts to ensure their accuracy and completeness; analyze monthly variances.
  • Involved in daily operational activities, including: reviewing sales invoices for accuracy and applicable sales taxes (USA, EU VAT), cash application, timely accounts receivable follow up and collections.
  • Prepare the US sales tax remittances by state and record COGS invoices in the accounting systems and our orders database.
  • Prepare monthly adjusting journal entries for intercompany invoicing and deferred revenue.
  • Contribute to the successful migration to an ERP in the next 6 months.
  • Manage special projects as needed, including analyzing and interpreting financial data.
  • Participate in the development and implementation of financial policies and procedures.
  • Collaborate with other departments to ensure financial goals are met.

Minimum Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting with at least 4 years of relevant experience in a multi-currency, multi-company setting.
  • CPA designation an asset.
  • Proficient in Sage 50 or other accounting software.
  • Strong Excel skills, including experience with pivot tables, using macros and Access (an asset).
  • Able to multitask and work independently while also collaborating effectively in a small team environment.
  • Proactive and resourceful in obtaining the necessary information to complete tasks.
  • Organized, detail-oriented, and analytical, with the ability to connect the dots and solve problems.
  • Passionate about learning and motivated to adapt to new systems in a dynamic role.
  • Bilingual (French and English), both verbally and in writing. (The finance department is in charge of 4 countries: Canada, United States, France and United Kingdom, this role requires daily contact with English-speaking customers and employees for financial and accounting discussions).
